A lot

April 30, 2009

“Are you married?” he asked.

“No,” I replied.

“Do you have a boyfriend?” he asked.

“No,” I replied, and this time I laughed.

“I like you,” he said. “I like you a lot.”

It was so loud in the club, so I didn’t bother to tell him any of it: that I wanted to believe him, but didn’t. It is what it is.

One error that people frequently make when communicating needs and feelings has to do with personalizing the problem. Personalizing means assuming that other people’s behavior is always determined by their feelings toward you.

The secret is to kill your mind in those situations. Try to avoid any thinking that appears at any time about it. When you have not got a clue about what is going on is when best things happen
